We're Calling It: Anklets Are Back

In case you missed it; the 90s are back.

Chokers, the decade’s accessory of choice, are officially the new flower crowns when it comes to festival wear (Taylor Swift said so, and Coachella proved her point). While the slip dress, crop tops, grunge and tracksuits were all over the SS16 catwalk, from Chloe to Vetements.

So really, it was only a matter of time until the anklet made a comeback too.

Admittedly, it’s been an under-the-radar micro trend, overshadowed by its showier 90s siblings but it’s definitely there, bubbling under.

It was on the catwalks too; chucky chains paired with slip-on skate shoes at Calvin Klein (above, right), multiple chains with ankle-strap shoes at Dior Haute Couture (above, left), and incredibly ornate on bare feet at Valentino Haute Couture.

In fact, the anklets reemergence makes total sense. Let us explain.

For the last few seasons we’ve favoured cropped trousers that sit just above the ankle, making way for what has been dubbed ‘ankle cleavage’.
